It's great that you can find mostly anything on YouTube, but it gets kind of tricky when it comes to getting it on your PC. If you keep bugging your friends to recommend a good YouTube downloader, stop that. You can use MP3 Rocket to either download or directly convert a video from YouTube.

In order to get it, you'll need to download a 12 and a half Mb installation kit. The wizard features standard options like creating certain shortcuts and adding a toolbar to your browser. The terms and conditions make it clear that you'll need to be 18 or older and the program is not to be used for copyright infringement.

Making use of MP3 Rocket's interface is not exactly... rocket science. Besides choosing from a series of skins, accessing the general settings panel and a few other options, the top menus won't be of much use to you. The program's functions are all placed on tabs and sub-tabs.

The first two tabs, Music and Video, are the ones you'll be most interested in. The music tab features two dialog boxes, one for searching for music on YouTube, and the other is where you paste an URL so you can convert a video to MP3. Just hit the Convert button next to the pasted URL and the process will start, but not before you specify a destination path and check or uncheck the option to add a copy to iTunes as well.

The Video tab looks the same as the Music one. The search engine, although it's named differently, it works exactly the same way as the one from the Music tab. The second dialog box under the Video tab is a YouTube video downloader. Just as you do with the converter feature, paste in an URL and hit the button next to it and the process will skyrocket, so to speak.

You can find some other interesting features under the rest of the tabs. Under My Files you can organize your downloaded or converted music. Save it somewhere else or add them to a playlist in order to use the program's own media player. The next tabs will give you access yo online TV, radio, games and a community chat.

MP3 Rocket's interface looks and works like a web browser. When searching for music, for example, it will take you directly to YouTube. Each search will display the results on tabs which you can use to access any other website. You can also find some buttons, on the bottom of the window, which let you share on Facebook, Twitter or Google.

Pros:
MP3 Rocket does a good job downloading or converting videos. Besides these functions, it also has some interesting features, all neatly organized and easy to access.

Cons:
The only downside here is the fact that you can only paste YouTube URLs.

Be it an entire video or just its soundtrack, with MP3 Rocket, they can find their way to your hard drive in no time.
